Compere Krishnan Guru-Murthy announces that Chimo Holdings has won the top manufacturing prize at the prestigious Made in Sheffield Awards 2016, recognising its impact on the historic steel city’s reputation.

Chimo Holdings won the top prize at the Made in Sheffield Awards 2016, recognising its impact on the historic steel city’s reputation. The company, which makes cutlery and giftware from its base at the White Rose Works, was among six winners on a night which recognised the very finest manufacturers operating in the city region. Hosted at the Cutlers Hall, by Krishnan Guru-Murthy, the event assembled almost 300 manufacturers from across the Sheffield City Region. Keynote speeches were given by Alcoa Forgings & Extrusions president Jacques Vanier, along with Master Cutler Craig McKay. Guru-Murthy, addressing the gathered manufacturers, said that “now, more than ever, is the time to come together as we do tonight to celebrate and champion the companies and the individuals who are taking the products across the globe. One thing other regions and countries didn’t yet possess, he recognised, was the ‘art’ which you have here, and that is encapsulated in the Made in Sheffield mark. It matters, it has resonance.”

There were six Awards on the night as follows:

Innovation Award
Winner: Magnomatics, presented by Professor Roger Eccleston of Sheffield Hallam University

Exporter of the Year
Winner: Diamond Dispersions, presented by Mike Rigby of Barclays

Investment in People Award
Winner: Mechan, presented by Greg Parkinson of Elevation Recruitment

SME Award
Winner: Birley Manufacturing, presented by John Warner of BHP Chartered Accountants

Apprentice of the Year Award
Winner: Tom Bruce, Chesterfield Special Cylinders, presented by Joanne Hammond of Begbies Traynor

And finally the Main Award of the night – The Made in Sheffield Award
Winner: Chimo Holdings

The Made in Sheffield Award is about a company or an individual who is an ambassador for the city and all its prestigious manufacturer history this award is given tonight to Chimo Holdings but also to Chris Hudson a man at the helm of a company which embodies all that the event celebrates and champions.
